What is Internet ?
The Internet
- A whoppingly large number of computers are now connected to the internet.
- There has to be a smart network to handle the outrange of so many computer systems communicating with each other in random fashion.
- Today’s Internet symbolizes a network where any computer can communicate with any other computer given some of core information of the computer to which it wants to initiate it communication.
- If a computer is connected to the internet then they can send and receive all kinds of information such as text, graphics, voice, video, and computer programs.
- For communicating over the internet, the systems or the computers have to follow several rules(called standards). These standards are developed by some organizations like the IEEE.
- The communication between any two systems on the internet takes place over a layered system (like the TCP/IP layer). Each layer is assigned a task and information has to flow through each layer while entering and travelling the network to reach its destination.
- The Internet grew out of the Advanced Research Projects Agency’s Wide Area Network(then called ARPAWAN or ARPANET) established by the US Department Of Defense in 1960s for collaboration in military research among business and government laboratories. Later universities and other US institutions connected to it.
- Today’s internet is a very well organized, structured and collective form of data warehouse. It is quick, more efficient and more secure then the internet of the past.
- With more than 30 billion web pages hosted on the network, the internet is a huge resource of information.
- In this application, we will learn about the working of the internet in detail. We will learn about the working of the internet in detail. We will study different protocols that build up these layers which in turn builds up this network.
